Feature Overview of Powersim Studio 9

Building simulation models

  • Easy to use graphical interface for building and running simulation models.
  • Model graphically using a stock and flow notation.
  • Build hierarchical models with reusable components (sub-models).
  • Create multi-lingual models.
  • Library of over 200 inbuilt functions and the ability to create your own using VB script.

Ease of use

  • Wizards help to automate setup tasks, such as creating a new project and connecting to a database dataset.
  • Function Wizard provides step by step assistance on using the 200+ inbuilt functions.
  • Dockable help windows and context sensitive help provide you with immediate assistance when and where you need it.
  • Powersim Studio automatically updates all dependent references when a variable, range or unit is changed.
  • Any errors in the model are automatically visualised for the user allowing for easy identification and rectification of errors as they occur.

Units of measure

  • Advanced Unit Control ensures unit consistency throughout the model.
  • Conversion between currencies and compatible units.
  • Pre-defined and built in units and currencies, plus the ability to define your own units.
  • Powersim Studio now includes Australian (AUD) and New Zealand (NZD) dollars as built-in currencies.

Simulation time

  • Simulations can be continuous or discrete.
  • Simulations can be either calendar dependent or independent.
  • Series Variables allow you to easily work with a time series of data.

Arrays

  • Powerful multi-dimensional array capabilities let you build arrays with up to 6 dimensions plus a time dimension with up to 500,000 elements per variable and up to 2.5 million elements per variable in the Enterprise edition.
  • Dynamic Ranges* allow you to dynamically define the dimensions of an array (Requires FP3 access):
    • From the user interface using Action Buttons to add, rename or remove elements, or
    • Based on data imported from Microsoft Excel.

User interfaces

  • Create customised user interfaces for interacting with simulations.
  • Insert hyperlinks or buttons to navigation between different screens.
  • Display simulation output with graphs, tables, scatter plots, gauges and slider bars.
  • Input parameters using sliders, tables, switches and graphs.
  • Action Buttons** to execution a command or series of commands.

Data Connectivity

  • Simulate data from organisational datasets and export results.
  • Drag and drop connectivity to Microsoft Excel.
  • Live data connection with Microsoft Excel.
  • Live data connection with relational databases including SQL, Microsoft Access and Oracle.*
  • Live data connection with SAP Netweaver BI 7.0.*
  • Dataset wizard makes it easy to setup two-way connectivity with datasets.*
  • Studio 9 Enterprise and Executive are SAP certified integrations with SAP NetWeaver BI 7.0.

Analysing simulations

  • Run what-if scenarios using Scenario Control.
  • Set up several simulations within the same model project to run historic, current, or long-term scenarios.
  • Optimisation** - Automatically run multiple simulations to search for the optimal policy decision that fulfils your objectives.
Risk Assessment** (sensitivity analysis) - Analyse your simulation taking into account risk and uncertainty with Studio's powerful Risk Analysis functionality. This allows you to see how sensitive your simulation is to uncertainty and analyse how this affects your strategy.
  • Risk Management** - This combines Optimisation with Risk Assessment. This allows you to optimise your strategy while minimising the impact of risk and uncertainty.

Collaboration*

  • Collaboration feature keeps track of the last change made to a variable, unit or range and which user made the change.

Distribute models*

Models developed in Powersim Studio 9 Enterprise can be:

Distributed using the Studio 9 Executive or Cockpit model players.

Turned into customised simulation applications for Microsoft Windows or Web Simulations using the Studio 8 Software Development Kit

*Available in Powersim Studio 9 Enterprise edition.

**Available in Powersim Studio Enterprise and Expert editions.
