What
is Powersim?
Powersim is a Windows-based software package for creating System Dynamics models and custom-designed business simulations. Powersim
can be used as the basis for creating management 'flight
simulators' that permit interactive experimentation with issues
such as corporate strategy, operations, marketing, competitive analysis
and decision-making.
Powersim enables you to express your
ideas by creating a visual image of the problem you wish to analyse.
It allows you to create diagrams that represent a system, such as
your department, factory, or company, and develop the diagram into
an interactive, dynamic model. By running the model you can see the
effects of your decisions over time, discover potential problem
areas and make adjustments in a risk-free environment.
How does Powersim work?
Powersim utilises the
System Dynamics method to model your system and simulate its behaviour
over time. You begin by creating a model of your problem or your
organisation, then add mathematical formulas
to each element in that model. You then
run the model and observe the behaviour of your system. Powersim
offers you a wide array of options to let
you control the simulation's behaviour.
Powersim's showcase of features
brings your business simulator to life by allowing
you to add sound, graphs, text, pictures. You can import and use data from other programs, such as Excel spreadsheets and SAP Netweaver BI, by linking them into Powersim.
How does business simulation
help me?
Powersim allows you to
formulate and trial
strategies in a computer-based 'microworld'
before implementing them in the real world. Simulations
created through Powersim reduce the time and resources
necessary to examine the risk and
return profiles of strategic options, and can eliminate many real
world risk scenarios before they occur. They enhance your
ability to understand, improve, and communicate the relationships
between business structures, strategies and short and long-term
performance. The nature of simulators make them powerful
interactive environments for experiencing the dynamics of
your business under various conditions.
What sort of application areas
is Powersim used in?
Powersim has been successfully used to create simulations
across a wide spectrum of industries and business such as strategic planning, resource management,
crisis planning and management and process
re-engineering. Powersim
has helped well-known companies worldwide such as Accenture, BHP Billiton, Pricewaterhousecoopers, Cadbury, SAP and Novo Nordisk to engineer solutions to a wide range of problems.
Powersim can help a management
application by building models that reflect your company's
operations, your competitors, and your market place. Powerful
simulations enable your employees
to practice policy analysis, competitive strategy and 'what-if' scenarios
in a risk-free environment, and gain insights into the consequences
of their day-to-day decision-making.
Powersim can help an
industrial
application by simulating
systems of production, transport, and distribution as found in
industrial processes or factory plants. By developing an integrated
model that links actual field data to your process, you can observe
and analyze how external and internal forces influence your productivity
and profitability.
Powersim can even assist in
an environmental
application by simulating
the effects of intervention into ecological systems and environmental
problems. It can help develop alternative
scenarios and allows you to view their effects over time.
